Juha invited me to collaborate while I was traveling by ferry in Northern Norway to my hometown. As we exchanged musical ideas, several compositions began to take shape. We put together four pieces influenced by the Nordic climate and the sea. The title Meri comes from the Finnish word for “sea,” and in this piece we tried to imagine what it might feel like to be the sea itself.
Throughout the record, Juha and I explore the experience of observing nature, being at sea, and the ways these encounters affect our inner world. Dive invites the listener into meditative piano loops that open space for reflection. The track When the Birds Start to Leave captures the moment when migratory birds prepare to fly south as winter approaches.
